Healthy weight and exercise

Find information about living a healthy lifestyle including health eating and exercise.

Making healthy lifestyle choices, including maintaining a healthy weight and staying physically active is important to your  health and development.

There is so much information about how much and what type of exercise you should do to stay healthy. Here is the most up to date advice from your school nurse. To keep fit and healthy you need to try and do

  • at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day – this should range from moderate activity, such as cycling and playground activities, to vigorous activity, such as running and tennis
  • on 3 days a week, these activities should involve exercises for strong muscles and bones such as sports like gymnastics or tennis

At the same time you should try and spend less time  watching TV, playing computer games and travelling by car. Try walking or cycling instead

Being active for at least 60 minutes a day is linked to better general health, stronger bones and muscles, and higher levels of self-esteem
