Young Carers, raising awareness and support.
Did you know a young carer is someone under the age of 18 years old who helps look after a relative who has a condition, such as a disability, illness, mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol problem? Most young carers look after one of their parents or care for a brother or sister? A young carer may also have to help with extra jobs in and around the home, like cooking, cleaning, or helping someone to get dressed and move around?
Did you know Manchester has a vision for Young Carers? The aim is for them to have access to the same opportunities as their peers. To have access to additional support to enable them to be safe, healthy, aspire and achieve.
If you are a young carer you can speak to your school nurse for extra support.
You can also request a young carer assessment by ringing the Contact Centre on 0161 234 5001.
