The internet’s a huge part of everyday life!
You probably feel like you couldn’t live without it! However, as there are so many new apps out there giving you lots of information, it is very important to stay safe and be mindful with what you are looking at and accessing. The BBC website have introduced a new app called ‘Own It’ which helps you to have more control of your online life. You can access this by visiting https://www.bbc.com/ownit
These tips below will also help you stay safe online and protect you from harm.
They’re there to protect your information so it’s best to make sure they are strong passwords with letters, numbers and symbols that can’t be guessed by anyone else. Don’t share them with other people and change them regularly.
Use the privacy settings on social media and apps to control who sees what information about you.
Be careful not to give out personal information like your name, email, phone number, address or the name of your school to people you don’t know.
Make sure someone can’t work out too much about you from the information you include in your profile or bio or by looking at the background of your profile pic.
A padlock symbol in the browser address bar means a website’s secure. Before you enter private information like payment or address details check it’s there. If it’s not don’t use the site.
If you have any more questions on this area or would like to speak to somebody about this topic, have a look at the links or you can always contact your School Nurse.
