Becoming a parent for the first time is exciting and can also be scary for different reasons.

If you’re under 21 years old and expecting your first baby, you can get support from our Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) team.

You’ll get the same services after the birth as the health visiting team. But you’ll also get support throughout your pregnancy from your own family nurse.

Who is the service for?

It’s for anyone who is a first time parent aged under 20 who is less than 28 weeks pregnant. You must live in Buckinghamshire.

What does a family nurse do?

They’ll visit you regularly during your pregnancy, either at home, or where you feel comfortable. The family nurse will help you prepare you for the birth and meeting your baby, and will continue to visit until your baby is 2 years old.

They’ll personalise a programme for you which could include:

  • feeding your baby
  • finding out about your baby’s development
  • education and training
  • housing, money and relationships
  • childcare options if you choose to go back to work.
