Welcome to the Bradford School Nursing Team!

The School Nurse's role is to help improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing.
We can give advice over the telephone, on a video call, or we can meet with you in school, at home or in the community.

Every young person and child who lives or attends a school in Bradford has access to our school nursing team. Our team is led by Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (School Nurses) and supported by Registered Nurses, Community Nursery Nurses, School Nurse Support Workers and a Screening Team.

Our role is to help improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing. We support with all kinds of health issues such as:

  • Struggling with the way you might be thinking or feeling about things
  • Sleep
  • Continence
  • Physical and sexual health
  • Relationships
  • Smoking
  • Vaping
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Healthy lifestyles.

We can give advice over the telephone, video call, or we can meet with you in school, at home or in the community.

To speak to a member of the team:

  • Talk to a member of staff at your school or your parent/career who can contact us on your behalf
  • Call us on: 01274 221203 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm. Excluding bank holidays)
  • Text us on: 07312 263223 (The text messaging working hours are Monday to Friday from 09:00am to 5:00pm. Your message will be seen during those hours after which we respond most quickly to messages that need urgent attention, and we aim to respond to all messages within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.  If you need urgent help in the meantime, contact your doctor, visit a NHS walk-in centre or call NHS 111.  If it is an emergency, dial 999 or visit A&E).

What to expect at a School Nurse Team appointment:

Once the team receives your referral, a member of the team may contact you, your parent or school by phone, to discuss the referral and to book your first appointment.

What to expect at sessions:

We offer up to 3/4 sessions. The first will be a ‘get to know you’ session, we call it an Initial Health Assessment. You’ll be asked questions about your health, lifestyle and wellbeing. This helps us to tailor the support to the needs of you and your family. The following sessions are where you’ll discuss the problem in more depth and review your overall wellbeing. It is also a chance to review progress and goals and complete a signposting plan if needed.

What to expect at a Drop-in Clinic at your school:

These are held monthly at schools and colleges, usually at lunchtime, during your break. Some schools may ask you to arrange an appointment. You’ll be able to ask a member of the team questions about your health, lifestyle and wellbeing. We can offer up to 15 minutes per drop-in. If you need more time, we may recommend that you are referred into the team for 1:1 support or you pop back to the next clinic.
